Viagra (sildenafil) is used to treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get or keep an erection for satisfactory sexual activity in men, also known as impotence. Sildenafil belongs to a class of medications called phosphodiesterase type5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Viagra is for women
If you’re a woman who is having difficulty getting or keeping an erection, talk to your GP or pharmacist.
Viagra is not for women. In most cases, men will not be able to use it.
The only treatment for ED is a tablet (a pill) taken as a pill, with a half-hour or an hour after sex. Your GP will check your blood pressure and hormone levels regularly to see if the medication is right for you. If it is, they’ll prescribe you a tablet. If you have a problem with blood flow to the penis, your doctor will prescribe a pill, and then you can take it at the same time with water.
Your GP and pharmacist will decide whether you need to take this medication or not.

Viagra is for men
There are two main types of erectile dysfunction treatment available:
A doctor will tell you what you need to know about Viagra and your treatment. A doctor will be able to give you the medication you need in a tablet.
You will usually take the tablets in one of these two ways:
The first method of treatment will be an oral tablet. It can take a few days to see how you respond to the medication. It’s important to note that the tablets are designed to be taken 30 to 60 minutes before sex and can only be used when you have sex. This means they won’t work without sexual stimulation, so you can’t take a tablet in the morning.
There’s no need to take the tablets if you don’t have erectile dysfunction. You can take a tablet about an hour before sex, but it can be taken up to an hour before sex.
The second method will be an intracavernous injection of a medication (for injections) into your penis. It can take up to one hour after you’ve taken the medication, but it should take a few days for the medication to be effective. This can take up to 2 weeks to start working.

Your GP will then prescribe you a tablet or the injection. You should take it as soon as possible when you want it to work. However, if you’re having difficulty getting an erection, your doctor will prescribe a tablet or the injection at a different time.
You should use condoms to prevent pregnancy.
If you’re having trouble getting an erection, talk to your GP or pharmacist. They can help you get it under control. They will also advise you on how much medication you need to take, and how often you should take it.
